DALER SIGNS PRO BASEBALL CONTRACT

May 15, 2015, Garden City, KS - Former Farmingdale High School third baseman and member of the 2004 12U FBLI Cooperstown Greendogs, John Galanoudis (Farmingdale, NY) signed a minor league baseball contract to play ball in the Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs. Galanoudis officially joined the Las Vegas Train Robbers and will wear #38. The Robbers will play a 70 game schedule in 72 days and will play at ballparks throughout New Mexico, Texas, Colorado and Kansas. As a Molloy College student-athlete, John finished his collegiate baseball career on quite a high note. This past season at Molloy, he batted .318 with 30 runs scored, 56 hits, nine doubles, 2 home runs, 29 RBI, 71 total bases, 6 stolen bases, a .386 on-base percentage and a .403 slugging percentage. Within the East Coast Conference, Galanoudis ranked second in total bases, tied for third in homers and RBI's, sixth in runs scored, seventh in doubles, and 12th in batting average. The 2015 season marks the third time Galanoudis has received All-Conference praise as he was also selected to the All-ECC Second Team in 2012 and 2013. The East Coast Conference is a strong wood bat league and Johnny always found himself at the top of the list with aggressive stats and was a consistent producer. He has tremendous offensive tools and utilized those tools effectively throughout his college career. Aside from just this past spring season, John finished his college career with a .308 career batting average after 175 games, 611 at bats, 188 hits with 110 RBI and 6 home runs. His exemplary work ethic and dedication to baseball have consistently been fueled by passion and his love of the game.

Town Re-dedicates Pops Sabellico Field

With renovations complete, town officials attended a re-dedication ceremony for Pops Sabellico Field in Farmingdale.

"With the renovation complete, it's an absolutely beautiful field that little leaguers will enjoy for years to come," Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto said on his Facebook page. "I was also glad to get the chance to tell some of the players on hand about the important lessons I learned on the diamond."

The park, on Merritts Road in Farmingdale, was first dedicated by the Town in 2001 to posthumously honor James "Pops" Sabellico, a lifetime resident of Farmingdale who was a highly regarded baseball coach by the children of the community.

Improvements at the field include newly installed turf, renovated restrooms and a new scoreboard.

James Sabellico was born in New York City in 1924 and was one of 10 children. He was a standout baseball player on city sandlots and later in high school, before trying out with both the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees.

He was invited back to the Yankees, but the war intervened and Sabellico went on to serve with the U.S. Navy in the European Theatre of Operations aboard the USS Thurston and served in Iwo Jima and Okinawa in the Pacific.

He returned from the service and married Rose Cavallo. They moved to North Massapequa, raising their two sons, Thomas and Robert. Like their dad, both sons coached baseball and became well known for their ability to teach lessons on the ball field that translated well in the game of life.

“He cared so much about the community and the kids who played ball here,”  Venditto said. “This beautifully renovated field will forever serve as a reminder of how much we cared about him.”

The 2012 10U Lady Greendogs had to come from behind and win a thrilling extra inning semi-final game to earn a trip to the Championship game at the East Meadow Summer Sizzle. The Lady Greendogs finished in second place after suffering only their second loss of the tournament in the Championship game. They did a fantastic job of representing themselves and Farmingdale softball. Great job ladies!! Truly an outstanding effort!!
